Important: DICOM Kit is intended for research, education, and workflow support. It is not a medical device and does not provide or replace professional medical diagnosis or treatment. Do not process patient data on an unauthorized device or in an unauthorized environment.

1. About this policy

This Privacy Policy explains how DICOM Kit (the “App”) handles information that you choose to import or that is generated while you use the App. The App is provided by the DICOM Kit team. By using the App, you acknowledge this policy.

2. Information we handle

DICOM files and tagsMedical image files you choose to import and their tags, which may include patient name, patient ID, date of birth, study details, institution information, and other DICOM metadata.
App dataPatient, study, series, image indexes, annotations, settings, and related records in the local SQLite database.
Diagnostics logsRuntime status, errors, timestamps, and diagnostic information. Logs may include file paths or technical details needed to troubleshoot failures.
Purchase informationIf you purchase Pro functionality, Microsoft Store processes payment and entitlement information. The App reads only the entitlement status returned by the Store.

3. How information is used

  • To import, index, organize, display, and process DICOM files that you select.
  • To save patients, studies, series, images, and annotations for browsing and management features.
  • To save settings and create local diagnostic logs for maintenance and stability troubleshooting.
  • To verify App or Pro entitlements through Microsoft Store.

4. Storage and transfers

By default, imported DICOM files, the app database, settings, and logs are stored in the App's local data directory on your Windows device. DICOM Kit does not upload imported DICOM files, patient information, or annotations to our servers, use them for advertising, or sell them to third parties.

The App may connect to Microsoft Store for acquisition, purchase, or entitlement verification. Microsoft’s own privacy policy governs its handling of that connection and transaction data. Other than Microsoft Store entitlement services, the App does not intentionally transmit DICOM content to external analytics, advertising, or cloud-storage services.

5. Sharing and disclosure

We do not sell, rent, or share your DICOM content. Limited information may be disclosed when you request or authorize it; to complete Microsoft Store transactions and entitlement verification; to comply with applicable law or protect users and the public; or when infrastructure providers process information under confidentiality and security obligations. We do not use patient data for unrelated advertising or commercial profiling.

6. Retention and deletion

Information remains on your device until you delete the relevant records or files, or uninstall/reset the App through Windows settings. Deleting an in-app index may not delete original DICOM files in their source location; check and delete original files, backups, and exported copies according to your organization’s policy. Logs are retained according to the App’s local logging policy.

7. Security responsibilities

The App uses the Windows app model/local app-data storage and Microsoft Store distribution for baseline protection, but no local software can guarantee absolute security. Use a trusted device, keep Windows updated, enable appropriate disk protection, and follow your organization’s access-control, backup, and retention requirements for health information.

8. Children’s privacy

The App is not designed for children. We do not knowingly collect children’s personal information. If you believe such information has been handled improperly, contact us below.

9. Your choices and rights

You decide whether to import files, and you can view or delete in-app records, clear local app data, or uninstall the App. Where required by law, you may request access, correction, deletion, or restriction of processing. Because the App primarily runs locally, we may not be able to recover data that you delete.

10. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy when the App, law, or our operations change. The updated version will be posted on this page with a revised “Last updated” date. Where required, we will provide notice through appropriate means.
